Since graduating college, I have worked in an office.  I began my career in a beautiful office located in the Indiana Statehouse.  Now, I’m stuck in a cubicle 8 hours a day.  This blog is the beginning of my journey to bust out of the cubicle and find fulfillment and flexibility in the virtual assistant world.

I am a 35 year old wife, stepmother, and law student.  I also work full time for a state government agency.  Indiana is where I call home and I love this state with all my heart.  It isn’t flashy nor does it have gorgeous landscapes.  But it does have wonderful people, the Indianapolis 500, Mass Avenue, basketball, historic small towns, great breweries and wineries, and a plethora of other great attributes.

My career has consisted of over 10 years of working for various state government agencies.  The variety of these agencies has allowed me to wear different hats and learned a multitude of skills.  I have done a little bit of everything, from managing a $44 million federal education grants to conducting legal research to developing communication materials for the Indiana Secretary of State.  I would not trade any of these experiences as they provided me the opportunity to acquire skills I never learned in college.  (For a full view of my experiences, check me out on Linkedin here).

Above I mentioned I am in law school.  I’m currently finishing up my 3rd year as an evening student.  I began this journey a little naïve.  The idea of having a degree that carried weight (unlike my political science undergrad) and could launch me into a variety of careers blinded me from the sacrifices I would need to make.  My law school story will be content for another day.  But I will tell you, this period of my life has been one of the most emotionally and mentally challenging times I’ve endured.

Finally, I also have the privilege of being a stepmom to two of the greatest girls ever.  Like most blended families, our situation is a little interesting and challenging (also another content for another day).  However, so far, it is worth all the struggles.

So why am I looking to make a major career transition in the middle of all my chaos?  I have an inherent need to show my worth.  In other words, I want to be more than just an office monkey ready for someone to tell me what to do.  My goal with this virtual assistant business is to work with people in a creative and collaborative way to help them grow their business and achieve their goals.

Look for future posts the type of services I intend to provide.  Feel free to contact me with questions or opportunities to work together to capture your dreams.
