Today is a great day, people. Today is the day my summer begins. Accounting final: done. Business plan: submitted. Bring on two months of no school! This girl is ready.
A person really doesn’t how wonderful it is to come straight home from work until she can’t do it. That plus the constant nagging feeling that I should be doing homework or reading just wears on you. So I’m going to take full advantage of this time off.
And by full advantage, I mean find additional ways to stay busy (it’s really a problem I have). There are so many things I want to do now that school is over. So I’ve prioritized these things and below are the few goals I intend to meet this summer.
Focus on my blog.
I started this blog as a way to build a virtual assistant business. I’m still trying to build that business, but I really want to transform this blog into something more. I want it to be a place where women (and men) come to read something funny and maybe relate a little bit to the crazy that is my life. I want to build relationships with other bloggers and women entrepreneurs that will help each of us grow.
But all of that takes time. And now I have it. So get ready, people!
Hang out with my friends and family.
This summer, I plan to make a more conscience effort to see my friends and family. During the semester, I really do a poor job in staying connected. Unfortunately, the only way I really know what’s going on with my friends is through social media. And even though I get to see my family, I always feel like it’s never frequent enough.
This summer, it is my intention to annoy my friends and family so much with my presence that they will be wishing for me to go back to school.
Focus on my fitness.
I do a decent job during the school year in working out and eating healthy. However, my workout schedule gets pretty sporatic. I try to fit in a walk at lunch or a circuit workout when I get home, but sometimes it just doesn’t happen because of (you guessed it) school.
Now, I can get back to a normal schedule. My favorite workout routine comes from Anna Victoria and is called Fit Body Guides (or FBG). It is a great program that includes a specific schedule of workouts you can do from anywhere. And they really don’t take more than 20 to 30 minutes. (More on my love for Anna Victoria and FBG in future posts.)
To make sure these get done, I’ve already calendared the next three weeks worth of workouts. And as mentioned in my previous post, if it’s on the calendar, it’ll get done!
Clean my house and weed my flowers.
Yes, I am that crazy woman that loves cleaning the house and weeding my flowers. There is something so therapeutic about having a clean house and pulling those nasty weeds out of my flower bed. And I am so excited to do both!
I don’t mean to imply that my house is a pigsty. The house stays fairly clean during the school year. I sweep from time to time and dust just enough to make sure it doesn’t look like an abandoned home. But there just isn’t enough time to clean it the way I like to do it. (And before anyone says “Well your husband should do it,” he does, but just not the way I like it. So shush.) I cannot wait to spend time cleaning every nook and cranny of that house.
My flowers also get neglected during the school year. Yes, they get planted and watered. But unfortunately, rarely do I get a chance to pull out all those nasty weeds and random grasses. Watch out weeds. I’m coming for ya.
Live in my pool.
I’m a firm believer that if you have a pool, you should use it as much as possible. And that is my intention. Last summer, I think I got in the pool maybe a total of 5 times. This summer, after I’m done working out and pulling all those nasty weeds, I’m just going to jump in and relax. And it will be glorious.
Enjoy my girls and husband.
My last goal (and probably the most important one) is to focus on my husband and stepdaughters. So many times I have to tell the girls I can’t watch a movie with them or listen to their stories until I get this or that done. And then, by the time I get that done, they are in bed.
I love that I can be a role model for what a working mom (stepmom) is, but I don’t want to ever be too busy that I miss out on just spending time with them. That is why it is a goal for me this summer to just sit and hang out with them. Even if it requires me using glitter that gets all over my house, I’ll make it happen (and not freak out that it just messed up my freshly cleaned house).
This also applies to my husband. Being able to just enjoy each other’s company is not something we get to do very often. usually, we are both exhausted by the time I get home and crazy busy on the weekends to really give each the time we should.
What are you summer goals and how do you plan to reach them?
